Scottish Wedding Theme on a Budget

Hi there:

I really want to have a Scottish wedding theme but the outfits (for example tartan dresses for the bridesmaid) are so expensive and even the fabric seems a lot as well. Could you please help me with this.

Thank you

Dear Bride:

I am a true believer in planning and budgeting. So this is what I propose.
As I do not know how many bridesmaids, the date of your wedding, how many guests, etc, and all the variables that make every wedding unique I am going to give you some general guidelines.

First of all you need to set a budget, and stick to it. The further away your wedding date is , the better for your planning if you are in a tight budget, as this will give you extra time to do some research.

Yes, if you want to have a full Scottish theme reality is, is going to be expensive. So you need to make a decision and think outside the box.

You can research several sites that sell used or second hand wedding dresses and bridesmaid dresses so you can buy them at a fraction of the cost. Take into account that everything that is noted ”bridal” will have a high price. You can also search sites for evening gowns, cocktail gowns, and so on to find your bridesmaids dresses. These places are not conventionally thought for wedding attire , so the prices can be lower.

Do your bridesmaids truly need a full silk tartan dress? You can dress them in a regular solid dress and accentuate it with a tartan accessory, such as a sash, an applique, hair clip, etc with a tartan design.
Fabric flowers of hair accessories can bring the Scottish influence to any solid attire.

This is a great idea that can help you achieve the look for your theme at a fraction of the cost.

Hope that helped you and got your creative juices flowing, at least a little bit. Please mail me back with more details if I could be of any more help.

All the best!

More Scottish wedding cheap ideas.
by: Kat

Hi there, being a canny Scot, some other easy ideas are to include some lucky white heather or purple heather in your flower arrangements and wrap and tie the bouquets in tartan ribbon instead of the traditional plain satin.

A small sash around a child's waist, or over an older persons shoulder. Or as mentioned before a piece of tartan ribbon or plaid in the hair decorations. Tartan table runners are also a cheap but effective idea.
